Only a few lessons in and I strongly recommend "The Cool Piano Teacher"!

I let him know that I have a strong Music Theory background and wanted to hit the ground running - we've already covered quartal voicings, quintal voicings, the "Bill Evans" voicing, Tatum Runs, fundamentals of Russian technique, and more. I can only afford 30 minute lessons right now, but I definitely get my money's worth.

I especially appreciate that every lesson is recorded. This is so important considering the amount of material we cover each week. I always watch the recording mid-week and find new insights.

Alex also provides practice backing tracks on his website, which you can slow down or speed up. This makes practice infinitely more engaging because it feels like you are playing with a live band rather than just drilling chord voicings.

I have to admit that I was initially worried about taking lessons virtually. Thankfully, Alex has a thoughtful setup with multiple webcams. I can see his keyboard from an overhead perspective on one part of the screen, as well as his face on another. I love that I can see exactly what his hands are doing and reference this later in the recording. In some ways, it is more engaging than the live lessons I have had with other teachers.

Whether you are a beginner or a professional musician, I highly recommend lessons from Alex. I studied Music Theory and Composition at a conservatory, and I have since composed soundtracks for video games. However, my instrumental skills are pretty basic, so I wanted to find someone who could help develop my technique and expand my harmonic palette. Alex has been the right person for the job!

Alex is an awesome, upbeat, fun, inspiring piano teacher who has an amazingly impressive knowledge base as well as a uniquely effective way to teach piano! He is teaching me not only play the piano but also to CREATE on the piano! Each time I play or practice, I walk away feeling rejuvenated and positive rather than frustrated and...well...just really bad! Alex is making all that possible with his lively, amusing, and brilliant methods of helping me to learn beautiful skills and technique efficiently and rapidly. I feel so lucky to have found Alex, he's the best!!!

My 13 year old son after a long break from music and a lot of reluctance, started lessons with Alex. Alex has been an amazing teacher. He keeps my son entertained through out the lesson. Alex is a teacher’s teacher who carefully listens and molds to the student’s needs and desires. Our 16yr old (who has played piano since 5yrs) recently started exploring Jazz theory and fundamentals. With his experience Alex was able to create custom lessons to help him explore new attributes in growing as a seasoned player altogether.

I recently started taking virtual piano lessons from Alex around jazz theory and he's been amazing. Personalized content, great homework to study, multiple ways to learn (aside from simply reading music and memorizing it), and a really cool digital format for the lessons that work really well. It hasn't been that long and I already feel I'm getting better and more aware of how all the elements come together. He's also really fun :)
