Absolutely loved this place. Took me 3 hours to get through it. I was impressed by the quality and sheer number of displays.

Went here with my son it was by far the best museum I have been to in the country. They had an entire section dedicated to model trains. Very informative and easy to navigate. We took two and half hours to tour. Awesome museum!

This is our first visit the state museum and even the first railroad museum for my kids! Very educational and informative for my family about the history of railway in US.

It has a free 30 mins tour for guests, the volunteer guide is very nice and informative!
At the entrance area, it has an Exhibition shows how Chinese contributed their labour force and lives to build a railway from west to east, for both Canada and United States, ?

This museum have so many train engines, very impressed and well maintained! The ticket with every pennies.

Highly recommended for family

Free admission for 4th graders and family with the state park pass. We took a tour through the Sierra exhibit with one of the museum personnel. There are some big engines in the roundhouse as well as some historical cars such as sleepers, diners, mail car. They have a new exhibit focused on model trains upstairs. There's also a section where children can play with wooden train sets that's pretty popular. There's a gift shop with DVDs, train sets, books, clothing, etc.

Not a single thing on this planet gets me happier than trains.. if you like trains than this is the place for you. They have alot of trains.

Please come to the train Museum!! It's our favorite place in all Sacramento. My kids love it so much and ask to go all the time. Even as an adult I love that place.

It was really fun and interesting experience. There are a lot of different types of trains in full size and also in miniature versions. Staff was really friendly. Tickets were very affordable.

A very nice museum and full of railway history, you will really find very beautiful and fascinating pieces. It has an are of toys related to trains that is very beautiful. You can have a nice time in this place. It will take time to go through it to detail all the things you will find there. Highly recommended.

I strongly recommend anyone to visit both California State Railroad Museum and Sacramento History Museum if you visit Sacramento. Both shows history itself. You can easily get to know how California has been made and why people moved to the West. In addition to these historical museums, you can enjoy Old Sacramento which is very close to these and looks just as it did in old days.

Wonderful for the whole family. Parking garage across the street I believe is $10. Easy walk to the train museum. Air conditioned and some fun interactive things for kids.

First level has huge train exhibits and a gift shop and appears to be all handicap accessible. I believe they had an automatic door opener button to enter the museum. Bathrooms are nice. They have elevators.

Second level is a theater I think.

Third is so fun for kids and adults. Small trains you can make go with buttons. A small kids play area with a slide and Thomas trains.

We also rode the train excursion. It was awesome. We paid for first class tickets because it is air conditioned inside and you get a snack and drink and also the car is beautiful and had comfortable seats. Much more spacious. About 50 minutes total. You can ride for free as well in the other two or three cars I think but they are more crowded and no ac.
