The real deal for Cuban café con leche and flaky pastry and pressed sandwiches, Cafe Tropical, is LA insiders best kept secret. Have a pressed sandwich with melted cheese, a strong cortadito and the café’s signature guava cheese turnovers. When you order the Guava Cheese Pastelito, try the large size or two turnovers so you have lots. Then enjoy a long leisurely weekend walk West for on Sunset Blvd for shops (or a nap).

Pastries and coffee are a gem here

I noticed Cafe Tropical one weekend when I saw a long line outside the cute pink-purple house. I came back to visit in the early morning and there wasn't a wait. However, their service showed little warmth on an already overcast morning

For coffee I had the cortadito and I just didn't enjoy the dark roast. Despite that, the large and unique selection of cuban pastries drew my back for a second time. I had the pastelitos in guava, guave & cheese, as well as chicken, they are tasty and fairly priced and I love them all.

Best coffee in Los Angeles. Period

Great food great vibes

I’ve been coming here for over twenty years, used to be my go-to breakfast on my way to work from 2001-2004. Gotta say that I was skeptical about the overhaul and changes to the menu, but it’s still awesome! It’s a great cafe with a lovely group of people working to make this place as special and delicious as ever.

They always forget to make my food order. I think they dislike me for some reason.

Kitchy, delightful, Clean and hip

Love this spot. The painted concrete floor. The community center in the back. The staff is always nice, patient, and helpful. When it’s a hit summer day on Sunset, you can’t beat the $5 mango batido. It’s fresh, delicious, and my kid loves it as much as I do. I highly recommend walking in here at least once to experience the charm and authentic Cuban dishes and drinks.

I also see a lot of ills working from here and have meetings. It’s a great spot and I’d relax here over Alfred coffee anytime.
